17th April 2019

So I thought that I would make this review as if I didn't ,or others do not then maybe nothing changes! In general things have been okay , but today the 17th of April I visited the surgery to get a repeat prescription and was told to go up to the first floor as the receptionist was on her own and could'nt help .. So I went up to the prescription booth on the first floor where I was met by a glum looking receptionist who had - not going to help written all across her face!! I have one item which I regular repeat but two others one being Beconase , and another which I now know to be Promathazine Hydrochchloride. She told me that they had not been repeated before, so they had to put them on a template ? and the doctor would have to verify . It was the way in which she came across which was very rude and cold! I told her that I thought it was beconese for my nasal problem and she was willing to put that on, but I could remember the other one, as the name is as you can see long>>>>> I asked if she could look up the name , which she replied NO I Cant !! Why its on my notes... NO again. If you ring back at 2.30 , ( thats if you can get through) then we can deal with you !!! I asked her name as that is usually the case if you are unsatisfied with the service you are receiving>>>> NO she replied in a I'm above the law way... I thought that they should have to give you their name as how on earth are you supposed to make a compliant and improves public services ? My daughter works in a practice and I spoke to her and she said she has to give her name if asked !! So I went back down to the ground floor reception where a different receptionist was at the counter and I couldn't believe how different this young lady was. She was so so helpful. She saw that I was a little frustrated by now , and slightly stressed, but within minutes she had changed the whole situation around and even looked up my notes and wrote down all the names of my medication ! 10/10 for this receptionist >>> Don't know her name ( long blonde hair very attractive) but if she could give me those notes etc, then why on earth did this other (not very nice needs to get a life person could not)...... We are get bad days but I have a feeling that this person has them every day. If that is the case I think she should not be working at this surgery! JK

Response from Meridian Surgery

We are very sorry you have experienced frustration with getting your prescription and would like to apologise that you were not treated in the way you wished. As you can appreciate, our reception team are under a lot of pressure and have a very difficult job. The attitude you experienced may have been from someone that was feeling stressed, although this is not an excuse for rudeness. The reception team work very hard and have to deal with patients who are very ill and/or upset – this is a challenging role, and they are often the first point of contact for patients that are unhappy, and often bear the brunt of this. We would like to apologise for your experience, and please do speak to our Patient Services Manager if you wish to make a complaint if you encounter difficulties in the future. Meridian Surgery

Obviously you don’t speak to your receptionists about their attitude on the phone. Very rude, abrupt & clearly not liking her job. Why should we tell them the reason for making an appointment? They are not medically trained nor frontline customer service trained it would seem. Also please don’t send letters asking to ring for a check up appointment when I’m then told there is nothing available. Having been told to call back tomorrow I suspect I will be given the same answer by the same rude person ..“emergency medical appointments only”!! And you wonder why A&E is so busy!!

Response from Meridian Surgery

We are very sorry that you have found staff members to have an attitude. We do ask our reception staff to ask for a brief reason for the appointment. This is so they can book you with the right person and this may not always be a GP and that could result in you being seen quicker. We appreciate how difficult it is to book appointments, and unfortunately, the demand for appointments will always be greater than the available appointments we have. We are constantly seeking ways to improve access for our patients. We always encourage our patients to register for our online services, and book non-urgent appointments this way, as this means you are able to do this without spending time on the telephone. It would be helpful to have more details about the date and time you called so we can investigate as any complaints from patients are taken seriously, and if you found a member of staff to be rude, we would always address this with them and take any appropriate action, but without details, we are unable to pinpoint your concerns. Please do contact our Patient Services Manager so we can look into this. Meridian Surgery

I dropped by at the reception today just to ask a question and I was shocked by the rudeness of the receptionist. I am foreign, I am not familiar with the health system in UK and I asked where should I go if I have no appointment and I have a bad tooth infection. The middle aged blond lady was shouting like I was not only foreign but deaf as well, that I need a dentist. I explained that I am aware but I need a place I can go without an appointment. She just said that Meridian Surgery is not the place and I need a dentist. Maybe you have to consider that people who come in are having health problems and deserve to be welcomed by nicer and helpful employees.

I am sorry that you have been spoken in a manner which you have found rude. Unfortunately, our receptionists may not know where the walk in clinic for an emergency dental care is. 111 or NHS.uk may be best placed to get such queries answered. Best wishes Dr Irma Murjikneli

For 6 weeks I have been waiting to get an appointment and have called every other day. I was greeted on the phone by rude receptionist and told there was only emergency appointments . If I had an emergency I’d go to the hospital that’s what they are for!. Upon a recent to the hospital I have been informed that I have suffered some health problems because the doctor has put me on medication I should’ve never been on. The receptionsit are rude and the doctors/nurses have no idea what they are doing. I highly recommend going to a different surgery

Response from Meridian Surgery

Sorry to hear that you were unable to get an appointment for 6 weeks! Emergencies from primary care are different from secondary care and I agree for life threatening emergencies you should go to hospital. There is a nationwide problem with lack of GPs and we are experiencing the same, so some days we have to keep appointments for emergencies only, those are people who need to be seen on that day, otherwise their health may deteriorate further and they will then require hospital admission. However, we do offer pre-bookable appointments for two weeks ahead and online appointments for non-emergency problems. Please speak to our Patient Services manager Yvonne Jones if youa re still struggling with booking your appointments. Dr Irma Murjikneli
